DAY 1: AUCKLAND - LIMA ...¡Vamos!


We depart from New Zealand and arrive in the same day after stopping in Santiago, Chile. Reception and transfer to your hotel. We will need a stretch of our legs after so much flying, so we can have a wander around the central plaza and enjoy a light meal.

DAY 2: LIMA ...Welcome to the city of the Kings!!

After breakfast we will visit PACHACAMAC, a special site on the outskirts of Lima.  This amazing place will help us understand the importance of all the pre-Inca groups that were located along the coast of Peru.  Lunch will be at a popular restaurant with Andean flavours and colours.  Back in Central Lima you can enjoy a walk around the Colonial heart, flavour a Pisco Sour or two and later we can have a light dinner in China Town!


DAY 3: TRUJILLO...Caballitos del Mar!

We will have an early transfer to the airport and fly to the pretty colonial city of Trujillo.  After settling in to our Hotel we will take a stroll through central Trujillo, visit the local market and later enjoy a nice lunch.  Trujillo is known for the nation's traditional dance, Marinera.  The colonial center is home to the grande Trujillo cathedral, with its bright yellow facade, and the blue Casa Urquiaga.
In the afternoon, we will visit  the amazing Chan Chan, a very old Pre-Inca City made of mud bricks.  During its heyday, about 600 years ago, Chan Chan, was the largest city in the Americas and the largest adobe city on earth.  It was home to the Chimu culture.
To end out busy day, we go to Huanchaco for some delicious fresh sea side food, next to the sea!
Huanchaco's original population were indigenous fishermen, who worshiped the moon.  It is known for its wonderful surf, the caballitos de totora (reed fishing boats) and its ceviche (marinated fish)

After breakfast, we will take our transport to Chiclayo (approx. 3 hours) and from here we visit Huaca Rajada, the place where Lord of Sipán was found.  The city of Sipan is dated from 50-700AD, the same time as the Moche Culture.  We will spend time at the amazing museum of the Tumbas Reales de Sipán (Royal Tombs of Sipan) 
After this busy morning, we can relax over a beautiful typical lunch in a country restaurant, before we return to Trujillo.

DAY 5: FLIGHT TO TARAPOTO - Hot steamy jungle!!

We take an early flight to Tarapoto, a lovely place in the cloud forest with incredible landscapes and full of life.  We will go to our Hotel, then get ready for a little adventure.  Our private transport takes us towards the waterfalls of Pishurayacu, located in the forest.  We will walk in the forest (about 45 there and back), we cross a small river on a raft and will find some fabulous hot springs to enjoy!  After a bathe, a little walk will take us to the falls!
We will arrive back to Tarapoto in the late afternoon, in time to relax a little and enjoy a lovely diner.

DAY 6: TINGANA ...Jungle life!!

Early in the morning, we take our transport to Moyobamba (about 2 hours) and get ready for another adventure!  We will go to the river port and take a boat to Tingana Lodge where we will enjoy a welcome drink and snack.  After this, we will walk in the forest and embark on small canoes for a visit to a small creek where we might spot different kinds of wildlife.  We get back to Tingana for lunch and to relax a while.  Later in the evening we can have a short walk in the forest near the lodge to feel the jungle by night.

DAY 7: TINGANA - MOYOBAMBA ...Take a break!

After breakfast, we make our way back to Moyobamba, where we will relax, enjoy the small city, some more hot springs, hammocks and cold beers!
Moyobamba is the capital of San Martín region in Northern Peru.  It is known as the City of Orchids!

DAY 8: MOYOBAMBA TO CHACHAPOYAS ... Enjoy the views!

Today you can sit back and enjoy the long drive to Chachapoyas (5 hours) and we can soak up some amazing views!  Once we arrive in Chachapoyas we will have time to explore the city and enjoy a good coffee.

DAY 9: KARAJIA SACOPHAGI ...Ancient Wise Men!

Today we will travel 60 kilometers to encounter the incredible KARAJIA SACOPHAGI, perched high on a ledge beside a limestone cliff.  These incredible funeral tombs of the 'ancient wise men', stand about 2.5 meters tall & they were built by the Chachapoyas people about 600 years ago.  Their inaccessible location high above  river gorge has thankfully preserved them from destruction by looters.

DAY 10: KUELAP... Stunning!

Today in the morning we will visit an incredible protected pre-Inca city that is perched in a very strategic location and is surrounded by very high walls.  A bonus will be the views we will enjoy while riding the first 'teleferic' transport of this kind in Peru.  Kuélap is a walled settlement located 3 hours from Chachapoyas.  It was built by the Chachapoyas culture in the 6th century AD on a ridge overlooking the magnificent Utcubamba Valley



Finally, we have a day to relax and catch up with ourselves!  We can explore Chachapoyas, and have time to relax.  Chachapoyas is at a comfortable altitudeof 2335 m.a.s.l

DAY 12: CHACHAPOYAS TO CELENDIN ...Out-of-this-world-scenery!

A beautiful drive, this road trip is 'out-of-this-world', offering a real cross-section of Peru in just 8 hours.  We will spend the night at a local ranch and enjoy some local flavours in the sleepy town of Celendin.  it is considered one of the most beautiful towns in the Peruvian Andes.

DAY 13: CELENDIN TO CAJAMARCA ...Where the conquest began!

We leave Celendin after lunch, and travel to Cajamarca (about 3 hours), where we will arrive in the evening.  We will be just in time to enjoy the colours of the sunset and take a stroll around the center of this important city.

DAY 14: CAJAMARCA CITY TOUR ...Ventanitas de Otuzco!!


Cajamarca is famous for their cows and milk products!  So we will start with a visit to the market to explore and taste some local delicacies before exploring the Cathedral and other historical spots.  Not far fro town are the fascinating Ventanitas de Otuzco.  After lunch we can visit Hacienda Collpa, a place where they milk cows, but this time you will see something a bit different!

San Pedro de Lloc is a small village the hosted and Italian (Raymondi) explorer who came to discover may plants & minerals in Peru. our journey from Cajamarca to Trujillo takes us through this beautiful villge where we visit a Casa de Campo to take a short break in the journey.
Tonight we can go out for a farewell meal for those finishing the trip!

Today we fly back to Lima in the morning and those of you returning home will wait for flights.  Those that wish to continue to the Galapagos will fly with us to Ecuador!



We can offer you an amazing add on trip to the Galapagos islands.  We are looking at a 7 day trip starting with a visit to Quito, the capital of Ecuador before flying to the Islands. We will include activities for everyone, walking, biking, snorkeling, swimming and of course viewing all the amazing wildlife!
